Meeting Friends in the Black Forest
Knowing that we would be spending our vacation in the Black Forest, we were excited to arrange a meet-up with friends who reside in the area. Since we don’t get to see them very often, the anticipation of reconnecting added an extra layer of joy to our trip. With the weather forecast looking promising, we felt optimistic about our plans. Considering that our friends would be bringing their little child along, we aimed for a short walk that would be entertaining for everyone, especially the kid. They recommended to go the the “Glücksweg“, which was reputed to be enjoyable and pleasant with a length of not even 4km. As we set out, the weather seemed to cooperate, leading us into a sunny and inviting day.
The translated description of the Glücksweg (could be translated as “Path of happiness”) reads as “The Glücksweg is an adventure trail especially for children. But adults will also enjoy this hike. The little salamander [Amanda] accompanies visitors along the way and shows them what happiness is. There is always something to look for and something new to discover. Those who follow the story will also find the many animal figures along the way. Frogs and ducks await visitors by the stream. You have to look closely to spot the little mouse. Friend bunny and friend snail are introduced to the guests by the little salamander. And everything you see has something to do with happiness.” (original description, here)
And the description did not lie, it was indeed a nice way to walk with the kid!
Gathering in the Heart of the Black Forest
We met in Bermersbach, a quaint little town nestled in the heart of the Black Forest. The heat and humidity of the day were noticeable, reminding us of our decision to keep our plans light. Thankfully, we hadn’t opted for a longer trek, recognizing that a more relaxed pace would be ideal. As we embarked on our walk, the route primarily consisted of a dirt road with a bit of path interspersed. This terrain was suitable for us, allowing for a leisurely stroll side by side, enabling lively conversation without the awkwardness of trailing behind one another. It was a chance to catch up while enjoying the beauty of the forest.
About halfway through our loop, we decided to take a longer break to rest, eat, and hydrate. Sharing snacks and drinks in such a tranquil setting truly felt rejuvenating. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, which set the tone for relaxation and enjoyment as we continued on our journey. As we proceeded through the more shaded part of the trail, I took the opportunity to capture some darker shots. Despite the bright, sunny day, the dappled light filtering through the leaves allowed for some intriguing contrasts in my photographs. I appreciated the challenge of working with the lighting to create compelling images.
After a while, we joined a forest road that led us past a fenced area where red deer were grazing. It was captivating to watch them, providing a window into the region’s wildlife. Observing these graceful animals added an unexpected touch of enchantment to our outing.
Coffee and Chat
As we made our way back to the town, the sun began to dip, giving a golden hue to our surroundings. We concluded our delightful outing with coffee and cake at the local café. The combination of good company and sweet treats made for an ideal ending to the day. Filled with laughter and engaging discussions, we reflected on the joys of reconnecting with old friends while savoring the beauty of the Black Forest.
